America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride Volunteers Needed

The skiing and riding is done now but the work for the Teams continues. We need 14 more volunteers for a great summer event known as America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride. This is an annual bike ride around Lake Tahoe and it will take place on Sunday, June 4th. For years, the Sierra at Tahoe ski team families have volunteered to operate the aid station which is located at Emerald Bay. Specifically it is located in the parking area on the slope heading up the north western side of Emerald Bay. It is a 5 AM early start but it is beautiful other there and we are done by 10:00 AM. We provide fruit and beverage to the bike riders. The Teams will earn about $1,500 for our efforts which will be used to help our athletes throughout next season. Please sign up as a volunteer on the website or email me and let me know that you and your family can help. It will be a great opportunity to see your winter friends. Your time spent at this event will go towards your required volunteer hours for next season. If you are short on volunteer hours for this season it can also count for those hours also. I can be emailed at roger@ecs-corp.net or you can call me on my cell phone at 510-773-7430 or office at 925-969-9245. Thanks for your help and we look forward to seeing you.

Comp Team BBQ ******REVISED DATE, TIME AND LOCATION*******

All Comp Team Families and Athletes:

The season ending Comp Team BBQ is taking place on Saturday, 4/22/17 at 11:30 AM at the far end of the Plaza where Buckle Up had their BBQ . This is in front of the Solstice Bar and adjacent to the Ski School meeting area.

1) I know that most of you have already RSVP’d but I am putting this note out one more time in case the revised time and date will allow any additional families and athletes to attend.
2) The cost for the athletes and their family is free as long as the Education Foundation $100 fee season fee has been paid, otherwise the cost is $5 / person.
3) Each family is to bring a side dish that serves 8-10 people. Families who’s last names begin with A-M should bring a side dish or salad and families who’s last name begins with N-Z should bring a desert.

We are looking forward to seeing you there. The weather looks good so there should be no problem eating outside.

Report from Copper Mountain.

The Snowboard Cross and Skier Cross course is almost complete as they have been building it for the last week. It's going to be great! Pre-training on the course will run on the 27th and 28th. Cost is $95. Pre-register for training through the USASA website, under the Rocky Mountain Series.

The last three days temps have been in the low-to-mid 50's. Weather is forecasted to cool a bit, but will continue this way. The 10 day forecast calls for a few warm storms to drop some snow and possibly rain around the start of Nationals. The temps are forecasted in the high 30's to low 40's, so these will be some wet storms. Lets hope this changes!

See you all soon!

This volunteer effort is fun and supports a great event and goes towards the required volunteer hours for each athletes family for this season.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities

The Sierra at Tahoe volunteer event – America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride (AMBBR) will take place on Sunday, June 4th 2017. This is a very large bike ride event around the entire Lake. The event is in a beautiful place with lots of activity and a chance to get back together with our Team members. The bike race starts early in the morning and therefore volunteers are needed at Emerald Bay by 5:30 AM on 6/4/17 to set up. We will be done by 10:00 AM. This volunteer effort goes towards the required volunteer hours for each athletes family for next season. 20 volunteers will be needed. Concussion Baseline Testing

Hello parents!

Below you will find information on how to log in to impact testing. If you have an athlete who is at least 12 years old, we are requiring a baseline concussion test this year. In the event that your athlete suffers a concussion or a suspected concussion, this test can be used, along with a doctor's exam to determine when the athlete is well enough to return to snow. The test is provided to you by the Foundation, as are any follow up tests needed. There is no cost to you.

The test can be performed at home on any computer that has a mouse. The test can also be performed in Dan Moore's office at the mountain.

Go to www.impacttestonline.com/testing

Enter the customer code VRZWUXC5KU

Stay tuned for information on impact testing for our 5-11 year old athletes.

If you have any questions, please contact Dan Moore at 659-7453 ext 180. Or Sue at 530-545-9367

Thanks. Foundation Board

There will be a comps parent meeting Sat in the team room @ 1 if you had not already heard about it.

We have 3 more holiday training days Tues 3rd – Thursday 5th if you can make it up. There should be some fresh snow Sun – Tues with some potential accumulation in the 2’-3’ range so it could open up the whole mountain for the upcoming full teams weekend.

It will be a busy Jan 7/8th weekend, there is a Subaru Promotion with our own Maddie Bowman signing autographs and some skiing as well, the first Tahoe League Race for U12 and up is here at Sierra (on Lower Main), U10 and below is at Northstar. So there will be a bit more traffic earlier in the morning.

Let me know if you plan to race if you have not already done so!!!!

You will need to register and join USSA and is @ USSA.org in order to race (that is different than USASA.org)

We are in the Far West Group and Sierra Education Foundation is the club
Reminder of the Far West FAQ page to help parents obtain a USSA membership: http://fwskiing.us/content/faqs#USSA%20Membership

NOTE U10 and above need FIS approved helmets which means there is an FIS label or 2013 FIS specs on the outside.

Our retail shop has them if you don’t already have them btw.
For those of you parents that might want to improve your skiing or riding there is a Mountain master group that goes out each Sunday of Teams weekends that you can do all or on a day to day basis (9:45 – 2:30)

The World Cup is coming to Lake Tahoe @ Squaw Valley – Women’s GS & SL March 9th – 11th there will be a Parade Thursday, March 9th for local teams to participate in (just athletes) - Arrival/check in and staging will be at 2:45pm for a 4:15 parade. Your Sierra Coaches!

First Team Training Weekend

For our first official weekend we had a pretty good turnout! We received enough new snow to mix in with our existing base to get the Rail Jam off Friday night and then we had both a SL & GS for snowboarders on lower main on Saturday.
This week the comp teams have afternoon training from 1 – 4 on Monday Wednesday and Friday.

Also there is Breakfast with JR from 9 – 9:45 Thursday Friday and Saturday https://www.sierraattahoe.com/event/breakfast-with-jr/ if you are in the area.
The Comp Training schedule over the holidays is as follows:
Dec 24th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 31st, Jan 1st 3rd, 4th, 5th, then back to Jan 7th & 8th weekend.

If you have not heard there is a Mountain Masters (adult program on Team Sundays 9:45 - 3 pm ) that you can sign up for in advance or on a drop in basis and is for both Skiers and Snowboarders.

Upcoming Events:

There is a Rail Jam Jan 7th at Homewood if you are interested (you can sign up at USASA.org /western division/South Tahoe Series.
The 8th is the first Tahoe League race U12 and up is here at Sierra, U10 and under is at Northstar – you will need to join USSA and all racers will need helmets with at least some notice that states they are approved to use for FIS events.
If you would like to compete you will need your race fee in by Jan 3rd and will only need the Release of Liability if you are doing the Northstar race (as I have one on file here for you for our race).
The upcoming weather forecast has relatively cold nights and 30 -40’s during the day this week with maybe some snow Friday / Saturday so it should be nice conditions next week too.
For those of you looking to do some of your volunteer hours we will need some gate keepers - 8 (to verify racers properly passed the gates) and some runners during the competition. Let me know if you would like to log some hours.
We are going to roll Jan 14-15 training to the following weekend 21st-22nd as it is looking to be pretty full here and there is a Skier border cross here on the 22nd so you will be already be here if you want to compete.

Here is a link to last years team pictures if you have not seen them;
